Fabric Wall Hangings
(August 2007) Roxie Boyd. "My wall hangings have been four years in the making (or maybe
more appropriately - a lifetime in the making). I have about 35 pieces
in the oriental style and several pieces that I professionally mount
on wood. In August of 2006 I was invited to show my wall hangings in
the most unusual of places - a fabric store in Chinatown in San
Francisco. They hung there for about a year and a half under the owner closed the store.
Fall to Earth designs are professionally hand crafted one-of-a kind Wall Hangings. You will find an overwhelming amount of Asian influence in these Wall Hangings made of decorative fabrics. “I have always admired how the Japanese combine pattern next to pattern next to pattern . . .” says Roxie Boyd, the Artist who conceived of these beautifully crafted wall hangings. “I made my first proto-type of this style of wall hanging over four years ago, but was never able to produce them on any kind of level until 2006. I take a panel of decorative fabric and match it up with an entirely different pattern that I use for the borders. Most of the creative process is spend in the pursuit of matching up fabrics." You can read more about Roxie on the Artist Connection page.
These Wall Hangings are finished with a secondary backing bonded with fabric adhesive, and coated on both sides with ClearCote® or ScotchGard®. On the back are tapestry rod pockets at the top and bottom (for even hanging). These are sewn in to accept a rod or dowel. Wrinkles can be ironed out with dry iron set on silk setting.
