Sigma Gamma Rho (ΣΓΡ) was founded at Butler University on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Founded in the midst of segregation, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority is the only sorority of the four historically African-American sororities which comprise the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), to be established at a predominantly white campus. Their motto is "Greater Service, Greater Progress"; colors are Royal Blue and Gold; symbol is a French Toy Poodle; flower is the Yellow Tea Rose. Publication is "Aurora."
